Welcome to the "Aussies in France" blog. My simple aim is to build up a network of Aussies living and working in France. I myself am from Adelaide and have just returned to live in Grenoble. I have lived in Lyon and Grenoble in the past for several years and found it difficult to meet fellow Aussies who were already here. After 18 months in Lyon I was unable to find another Aussie despite many attempts, although I am sure that there was someone in the region. In Grenoble I went along to an Irish pub to watch the Aussies play the final of the 2003 Rugby World Cup and although shattered by the result managed to meet several other Aussies. There were about 5 of us and 150 poms!

I have never used a blog before so you will have to be patient with the way it functions. So why should you participate with this blog? Here are a few simple reasons and I am open to other ones.
1) Meet other Aussies in the same situation
2) To be able to bitch about the things here that piss you off - eg: the French administration
3) Talk about Aussie sport - let's face it, if you are a cricket or AFL fan here - it's slim pickings (maybe 15 seconds on Europsort if we win a world cup)
4) Exchange tips of any useful nature - eg: visas, marriage, drivers license, etc
5) To arrange to get together for Aussie holidays (eg: Australia Day) or sporting events

Welcome to you all and I look forward to hearing from you Aussies lost out there in the French wilderness. Salvation is just around the corner....
